Roman soldiers had to march up to 30 kilometers a day, often in inhospitable terrain, carrying a field pack and their own weapons and gear. Good footwear was obviously essential for them. But how were Roman shoes made? And what did civilians wear? You can find out the answers to these and many other questions at this artisan demonstration.
