For the children's festival, the rebuilt city quarter of Carnuntum will turn into a fascinating theme park for young Romans. A great number of fun activities promise full immersion into the past. The time travel commences directly upon arrival when kids can do fancy ancient-style clothes thus morphing into Romans themselves. In the kitchens of the reconstructed houses youngsters are invited to taste Roman bread as well as desserts. Beauticians share interesting facts about ingredients and usage of perfumes and creams.

Manual skills can be refined by several handcraft stands. Which natural healing methods were known in Roman times? Secrets of ancient medicine are revealed by the knowledgeable medicus in the herb garden. Add sack races, pantomime, role-playing, ancient fairy tales and much more to all of this and the event is bound to ensure a truly unforgettable day!

It is a matter dear to Carnuntum's heart to make history an exciting experience for people of all ages and backgrounds. We especially like the challenge of waking children's curiosity. Events like the Children's Festival make Carnuntum an exciting excursion destination of historic value.

The Children's Festival 2019 in Carnuntum offers a variety of different activities to young Romans, many of them with games and handicraft from the time of the Roman Empire. You can stroll through the area of the festival and join in spontaneously, or you pick your highlights in advance.


Tickets and Entrance Fee

Bringing Roman History closer to children by making it "tangible" is one of the main aspects of the Children's Festival. Therefore the entrance for children under the age of 11 years is free (when accompanied by an adult). Children within the age of 11 to 14 years pay an entrance fee of 6,- Euro. Adults pay 12,- Euro, the NÖ-Card is valid during the Festival. You can find all details on tickets and entrance fee here. 


Visit with dogs

Dogs on a leash are allowed in the Roman City Quarter and are welcomed in Carnuntum. 


Shuttle free of charge

Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., the shuttle operates regularly between the Roman city quarter, the military city amphitheater and Museum Carnuntinum, as well as the Petronell-Carnuntum train station. Climb aboard at the train station and travel back and forth between all the attractions of the Roman city of Carnuntum.
