Although the ancient Romans may be most famous for their legionnaires (i.e. infantry), they naturally also had a strong cavalry to rely on during armed conflicts. One aspect is striking and special from today’s perspective: A Roman rider rode without stirrups for the simple reason that they had not yet been invented or were not yet known to the ancient Romans. You can see for yourself how the mounted troops were nonetheless able to participate effectively in combat in this impressive demonstration of fighting techniques from those long-ago times.
