Of course, everything has to be orderly with such a large-scale festival involving so many Roman legionnaires. That is why the day starts with the legionnaires lining up and their officers conducting a roll call just as they did nearly 2,000 years ago. With about 200 legionnaires involved, it is an impressive sight. The roll call is followed by a sacrificial ceremony modeled on actual historical practice and designed mostly to protect against misfortune. As a visitor, you have a front row seat to this spectacle.
