The Roman city of Carnuntum has had yet another new building since 2019: the oil merchant’s house. This is a golden opportunity to visit the merchant yourself and find out more about the oil trade. There is so much he can talk about, from the nutritional significance of olive oil to the areas where olives were cultivate and the transport of olive oil. The oil merchant is certain to know who in Carnuntum uses the cheapest olive oil for their lamps and has to put up with smoke-filled rooms as a result.
